The genus Paulownia is in honor of the Grand Duchess Anna Pavlovna of Russia. Imported to Europe by the Dutch East India Company in the 1830s and brought to North America soon after.
The Empress tree appears to be more invasive in Georgia,North America than in Europe. With the proper care this is not a problem.
